It’s Getting Heated in the Apex Legends Arena!
We’ve got some piping hot news from the world of Apex Legends! Two of the game’s biggest guns, TSM’s Phillip ‘ImperialHal’ Dosen and FaZe Clan’s Eric ‘Snip3down’ Wrona, are locking horns on social media. The bone of contention? The changes to the game’s meta ahead of the 2023 ALGS Championship.
The new season of Apex Legends, Season 18, dropped on August 8 with some seriously game-changing shifts. One big shakeup was the total overhaul of Revenant. But what’s really got our pro players hot under the collar is the changes to survey beacons and their spawns.
I have provided a summary below, but please read all the replies to gain a better understanding of the situation.
I just love getting mega nerfed right before the Biggest Apex tourney to date with less than a month given to practice and expected to "Adapt" because the devs are just completely out of touch with the Comp Scene.

Beacon Controversy: ImperialHal vs Snip3down
In competitive play, teams usually pick a POI (point of interest) to land at, and stick to it every game. The idea is to boost consistency in the otherwise random world of a battle royale. But Season 18 flipped the script. Now, all POIs have an equal chance of getting a Ring Console, Survey Beacon, or Crafting station, compared to the more predictable spawns before.
ImperialHal was outspoken and labeled this as a “mega nerf” to his team. This was of particular concern considering there was a major event looming. He had previously chatted with a developer before the season’s launch. In that conversation, he warned the developer not to interfere with the beacon spawns. But it seems like his advice was not addressed.
On the other side of the ring, Snip3down saw things differently. He argued that this change levels the playing field in competitive play and that no team should be entitled to a consistent beacon spawn at their chosen POI. He basically said,
Hey, why should you get a 90+% spawn rate and some of the best loot/zone POIs in the game?
Things got a bit messy from there, with Hal firing back that his team just gets the best POI because others, like Snip3down’s squad, can’t compete. Snip3down, a former teammate of Hal’s on TSM, shot back, accusing Hal of whining about devs not taking his advice. He believes the beacon shakeup has turned a random factor into a fair game for everyone.
Snip3down admitted, despite the heat, that he has stopped trying to discuss his issues with the developers because it hasn’t resulted in any changes. He said,
Everyone can have an opinion, but no one is owed the results of it.
Countdown to ALGS Championship 2023
The ALGS Championship 2023 plans to kick off in Birmingham, UK, on September 6. TSM and FaZe Clan are both prepared and ready for the event. They’re both eyeing the top prize, but TSM, with their impressive 2nd-place finish at the Split 2 playoffs, is looking like the team to beat.
