Destiny 2 Fans Revive PvP Scene: DIY Style!
You know what they say, “If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!” And that’s exactly what the Destiny 2 community is doing since the game’s PvP map hasn’t seen a facelift since the Season of the Haunted (that’s more than a year ago, folks!). With the Crucible feeling like it’s on its last legs, players are taking the reins and breathing new life into the game.
The Cold Snap Heats Up the Destiny 2 Scene!
Now, this is where things get spicy! A slick Vex-themed Forge creation in Halo Infinite is turning heads over on the Destiny 2 subreddit. Cold Snap, with its fresh map layout, teleporters and verticality, is just the kind of PvP map Destiny 2 players have been craving. The kicker? It’s not even from Bungie’s official vault!

As one fan put it (and I quote), “We are so desperate for maps that we are making them in other games.” Ouch. That’s some next-level shade right there! It’s been tough since Disjunction, that middling Crucible map set on Savathun’s Throne World, hit the scene back in May 2022. And don’t get me started on the last expansion, Shadowkeep from 2019 – a total PvP dry spell.
Is Bungie Playing Favorites?
It used to be that Destiny 2 developers could balance PvE and PvP content. But now? Well, let’s just say some are questioning their commitment. With Halo Infinite sporting a Destiny 2 PvP map before Destiny itself, the frustration is real. One user even defended the move, saying, “Halo is a mostly PvP game.” Adding fuel to the fire, another gamer pointed out the community’s grumbles about “having to do” PvP in Destiny 2 for certain items, saying, “it’s no wonder Bungie doesn’t invest more time into adding more into a mode that gives poor feedback.”
Looking Ahead: New Maps on the Horizon
Good news, though! There’s a brand-spankin’-new Destiny 2 Crucible map on the way. Rumor has it, this one’s set inside the Vex Network that Season of the Splicer introduced. Bungie has also been dusting off old maps from the Destiny 2 content vault to keep things fresh. But as one gamer, u/Ashen8th, points out, “two and a half years [after Beyond Light] and Halo gets a Europa-themed map while Destiny still has zero plans to add one.”
Sure, it’s no surprise Bungie’s shifting their PvP focus to the recently announced Marathon reboot and other projects. But it’s clear there’s still a huge appetite in the Destiny 2 community for more Crucible content in 2023. So, here’s to hoping they feed the PvP beast soon!
