Every game should have the crossplay feature. With crossplay, a gamer can experience the true meaning of a game which is to connect with anyone despite owning a PC or any console. Bungie understands this concept and brought Destiny 2 crossplay into the game.

What is Crossplay in Gaming?
Crossplay in gaming means players from all gaming platforms can join the same server at the same time and play with each other.
Let’s say you have a console, but your friends play games on a PC or vice versa. Or, you want to play Destiny 2 both on PC and console when one suits you. Well, you will be glad to hear that Destiny 2 crossplay is here. You can play Destiny 2 anywhere with anyone whenever you like.
Destiny 2 Players Stat
Destiny 2 is a popular online game with all-time peak players of 316,651 and a daily average of 72,137.4 players in the month of February 2023. The sudden rise of players in this game is a no-brainer.

The developers added Destiny 2 crossplay recently, which removed the limited hardware choice to play the game. So, a PC, Xbox, and PlayStation user can play together and do missions.
Here is everything you need to know about Destiny 2’s crossplay feature, which includes how the feature work and when Bungie added this in the game.
All Platforms in Destiny 2 Crossplay
As Destiny 2 is presently available for all gaming platforms, the new crossplay feature enables players on different platforms to collaborate and compete against each other to create a more competitive environment.
In other words, all players who play Destiny 2 on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC can now interact with one another in PvP or PvE gameplay. Moreover, there are no predetermined restrictions on who can and can’t group together in a Fireteam if you want to raid with them.

For example, you have a friend who is currently playing Destiny 2 on PC. But you are playing the game on PlayStation. Previously, you couldn’t join their lobby as Destiny 2 crossplay was not supported in the game, but now you can join their lobby and play together on the same server.
You will be able to play with all of your pals regardless of the platform they use.

How Destiny 2 Crossplay Works?
The same way you used to invite a friend from the same platform as you to play in a lobby. But now you can bring a friend to play in a lobby regardless of the platform.
Basically, you now have access to mixed Fireteams to do all activities, go to any destinations, and play all future content together. The player versus player (PvP) combat system is the only area that could bring some debate. However, Bungie has clarified that players on different platforms won’t automatically be able to join the Crucible by default.
Bungie included an option for PC players to “explicitly as console buddies to take part with them in the PC Crucible pools.” Please note that you can still achieve your goal; however, you may have to go through a few hoops first.

Crossplay Changed The Game
When Bungie first launched crossplay, every player from all platforms needed to change their name, also known as “Bungie Name,” and that’s your name across all platforms.
As a result, even if you play for a few hours on PC and then switch to playing on an Xbox later, your Bungie Name will help you pick up where you left off.
Upon launch, it will automatically generate your Bungie Names based on your last name. On the other hand, the developers are considering implementing a worldwide name-changer tool in the future, most probably in 2023.
Besides Bungie Names, Bungie Friends has also seen some changes. The developers improved the method of keeping track of your friends across different platforms and allowing players to invite teammates easily.

When Did D2 Crossplay Make its Debut?
Destiny 2 players from all platforms joined together for a new adventure on August 24, 2021, when Destiny 2’s Crossplay made its debut.
Destiny 2 Crossplay finally made its debut on August 24, 2021. Prior to the release, we saw some teases and an early test. Bungie confirmed the news in one of their blog post on July 29, 2021.
Bungie confirmed that Guardians across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC can now team up to take on the Darkness together. This crossplay update season, or the Season of the Lost, is the lengthiest seasonal update in Destiny history, allowing players to connect morning, noon, and night from all platforms.

Voice Chat in Destiny 2 Crossplay
After the update, a player had access to all content and activities, nevertheless, they lacked one key feature to make Destiny crossplay more enjoyable, and that’s the voice chat. However, the voice chat feature was added after almost one month on September 2, 2021.
How Voice Chat Work?
Voice chat in Crossplay works in the same manner as before, where players who team up with friends across other platforms can enter the in-game voice chat channel and talk.
But you could run into some issues if you try to use voice chat from Xbox; otherwise, it runs without no major hiccups. To help the Guardians with Destiny 2 crossplay voice chat troubleshooting, Bungie has a dedicated Destiny Audio Guide with a lot of helpful advice and tips.
What is Destiny 2 Cross-save?
Destiny 2 Cross-save is a feature that allows player to transfer progress across multiple platforms.
This cross-save feature is the best thing that happened to me in Destiny 2. I can play the game on PC, and when I want to do a PvP battle, I switch to my PlayStation, and oh boy, it’s fun.

Basically, players can link all the platforms he owns and play on their Bungie.net account and choose the Guardian. Here’s the step-by-step guide to doing so:
- You need to log into your Bungie.net account.
- Then in your account menu, you will see an option “Cross Save.“
- Now link your new or existing platforms to your account. (Just re-login to each platform.)
- After that, select the desired Guardian you want to keep track of.
- Finally, confirm the Guardian, and it will save your progress across all platforms.
Keep in mind that you will get a message, “Cross Save Activated.” But if you don’t get this message, then you made a mistake and did the steps all over again.
Conclusion
I hope you find the information mentioned helpful. I have included everything you need to know about Destiny 2 crossplay. This is the best feature in the game, and cross-save is just like a cherry on top.
